This is my NADER week. The week off without chemo to see what my lows are doing and give us a recovery week. I usually go to the clinic here in Blackfoot for my blood draws and check my coumadin level to make sure it's still where we want it. It is supposed to stay between two and three. Today it was 1.3. All the other labs looked good. My granulocytes were up to 1.5 from 1.1 last week.
I wanted to talk to Dr. McKinlay about the phlibitis that has been bothering me for the last couple of weeks anyway so I went to see him with with the 1.3 INR in hand. He didn't like the phlibitis or the INR. He ask me to go get another leg ultrasound and pick up some lovenox at the pharmacy. The lovenox immediately slows clotting until the coumadin can take over with pills. The ultrasound showed a renewal of clots in my legs and now they are up to my mid thigh. They are too big not to mention life threatening when they get up there so he wanted a clot filter put in prevent them from getting to the lungs, heart or kidneys.
Insertion of the filter is a day surgery procedure that we did this morning with a Dr. Whiting, an interventional radiologist. We were suppose to be in and out in a couple of hours but due to my creatanine level being high previously and still borderline high yesterday they decided to keep me most of the day running a sodium bicarb infusion that lessens the effect contrast dye has on the kidneys. Now here I are finally at home again after spending most of the day watching the IV pump drip. Next priority is getting the coumadin level back where it is supposed to be and go from there.
